Do I need a translation for my EU driving licence?

No. EU/EEA driving licences are automatically valid throughout the EU including Germany. A translation is only required for non-EU/EEA licences — USA, UK (post-Brexit), Russia, Turkey, Egypt, China, India, and all other countries outside the EU/EEA.

My UK driving licence — do I need a translation post-Brexit?

Yes. Since January 2021, UK licences are no longer automatically recognised in Germany. UK residents have a 6-month grace period from Anmeldung, after which they must convert their licence. A certified translation is required for the conversion application.
